Joe Barnes
Biography
Joe Barnes is the Chief Privacy and Security Officer and Assistant HIPAA Privacy and Security Official for the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, University of Illinois Springfield, and system offices. He leads and oversees the execution of the privacy, information security, and HIPAA programs, focusing on policy, risk, compliance management, training and awareness, and cybersecurity operations.
Barnes has more than twenty years of experience in information technology, in both the public and private sectors; for the past decade, his work has focused on privacy, information security, and risk. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional.
Mr. Barnes holds a BA from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and an MBA from Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi.
