Biography
As the Associate Vice President of Academic Programs at Hawaii Pacific University, Joe Schmiedl coordinates academic support for faculty and students. He oversees the Library, the Center for the Advancement of Innovative Teaching, and Sustainability. Drawing from his previous experience as Dean, Distance Learning, and Director of the Adult Service Center, he provides advice and recommendations regarding these areas to the Vice President of Academic Affairs and the deans of colleges. Schmiedl managed the project planning and implementation of the Campus Pipeline Web platform at HPU. Schmiedl's benchmarking and outcome measurement process was so thorough, the university won the PONO Tech Award recognition for accomplishing a more dramatic improvement to operational effectiveness than competing Hawaii-based corporations and non-profit organizations.
