Biography
Joseph G. Kunkel is an Emeritus Professor of Biology after a 42 year Faculty career at UMass Amherst who uses quantitative techniques to gather data from and about plant and animal organisms. Automated measurement of physiological and morphometric data feed into data analysis and mathematical modeling to test hypotheses. Research and development using the R Project, is a current priority. He is active in supervising undergraduate research as a Research Professor at UNE Biddeford ME where he maintains a lab in the School of Marine Science. Joe was a Columbia College zoology undergraduate and obtained his Ph. D. from Case-Western Reserve U. Five sabbaticals at UC Berkeley, U. Berne, Woods Hole MBL, Munich LMU and Linz JKU have been used to broaden his biochemical and physiological approach to studying organisms.
