Joseph Schuch

Biography

For nearly two decades, Mr. Schuch has facilitated the planning, design and support of high-tech classrooms at the University of North Carolina. His experience, through UNC and independent consulting, has deepened his appreciation for and awareness of the range of conditions impacting the success of colleagues and their customers at other institutions of higher education engaged in large-scale renovations. Mr. Schuch is a recipient of North Carolina's Ketner Award for Excellence for his proposed revisions to State Purchase Contract for Portable Computer Projection Devices (LCD Projectors) that resulted in savings greater than $1 million. The Ralph W. Ketner Award is presented to state employees whose suggestions represent state savings, labor savings and quality improvements that provide value to the state of North Carolina, its businesses and the general public. Mr. Schuch was appointed to the UNC Chancellor's initiative exploring Intellectual Climate in the Classroom as well as the Provost's Classroom Design and Advisory Council. He has served as a member of the Board of Governors of the International Communications Industry Association (ICIA), and Chairman of the ICIA Endusers Council. Currently, Mr. Schuch is the founder of AV-1.org, the largest independent online community for corporate and institutional IT managers who plan, design and support learning space, video conference rooms and presentation facilities. Mr. Schuch regularly contributes to the AV-1.insider, an online newsletter. Mr. Schuch currently serves as co-chair of the Classroom Capture Taskforce with the North Carolina Research and Education Network (NCREN). Through his affiliation with Thorburn Associates, Mr. Schuch works with architectural and engineering firms engaged in developing learning space projects for colleges and universities.
