Julia Tryon

Biography

Julia is the Commons Librarian for Research and Education in the Phillips Memorial Library and an Assistant Professor at Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island. She has been a reference librarian for 29 years. She earned her B.A in English from Colby College and her M.L.I.S. from the University of Rhode Island. She is a member of Phi Beta Mu. She is the primary researcher of the Rosarium Project which is a text encoding project focused on curating popular writing on roses, rose gardeners and rose gardening in an online fully-searchable database. She is responsible for identifying appropriate texts, text encoding and researching the rosarians, roses and rose gardens mentioned in the texts. She has been interested in roses and the popular culture surrounding roses for decades. Her other interests include online searching, bibliographic instruction, text encoding. She lives in a 141 year old Victorian cottage in a small Rhode Island village, herds cats and has a keen interest in knitting.
