Biography

Katie Hughes is a full-time lecturer in the Dept. of Rhetoric & Writing Studies and Faculty Fellow for Instructional Technology Services at San Diego State University. She has designed several online courses and trained instructors to teach online courses within her dept. and  through the ITS Course Design Institute, with a specialized focus on supporting faculty using Turnitin. Additionally, she promotes the Learning Research Studios’ active learning classrooms on campus, and through her teaching in these spaces has developed active learning pedagogy that leverages the technology and design afforded by them. She has organized a professional community of faculty teaching in these spaces at SDSU, holding regular meetings and maintaining a course site to keep them engaged in research and innovation related to active learning practices.
