Ten years ago, UMBC embarked on a journey to standardize institutional data and cultivate new ways of understanding and using data to serve the entire campus community.
Kevin Joseph is Senior Director, Business Intelligence in the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) Division of Information Technology (DoIT). He began his tenure in the Division of Information Technology over 30 years ago, when he first served as a student programmer and then full-time developer. In his current role he regularly interacts with faculty, staff and administrators to expand the use of analytics across the institution. He launched and currently leads the data warehouse (REX) team in DoIT and works closely with members from the Office of Institutional Research Analysis and Decision Support (IRADS) in managing and growing the use of analytics at UMBC. REX is based on Blackboard Analytics (formerly iStrategy) and uses the Student, Finance and Analytics for Learn modules. Kevin has given numerous presentations on UMBC's experiences with Blackboard Analytics. Kevin holds a B.S. in Computer Science and Information Systems from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (1987).
