Kostia Bergman

Biography

Kostia Bergman has been a faculty member in the Biology Department at Northeastern University since 1975 - teaching various types of courses - large and small, graduate and undergraduate, and mentoring Ph.D., M.S., and undergraduate students in their research projects. He has been the head faculty advisor for Biology, introducing innovations at the advisor/student interface, pioneering a course for first-time TAs, and playing an instrumental role in a number of important transitions: from quarters to semesters, from the CAS core to the NUCore, from centralized coop to college and department based coop. He also has been principal investigator on numerous funded projects to support his laboratory research program in sensory physiology of nitrogen-fixing bacteria, as well as on an NSF grant to support the use of electronic portfolios in the assessment of student learning for curriculum improvement. He was recently appointed faculty director of the newly reorganized Center for Innovation and Excellence in Teaching & Learning.
