Laura Jones has served as the Chief Institutional Data Officer (CIDO) at Northern Arizona University since 2016. In her prior role as NAU’s Associate Vice President for Planning and Institutional Research, Laura was tapped to develop a data governance model in collaboration with NAU’s Chief Information Officer (CIO). Experiences gained through her past NAU positions in the Registrar’s Office, College of Business, Academic Advising, and on the Oracle PeopleSoft Implementation Team provided a broad foundation from which to develop the data governance model. Her current CIDO role provides the unique opportunity to advance data governance initiatives while maintaining Institutional Research oversight. Laura possesses a Bachelor of Music Degree in Classical Piano Performance and a Master of Education degree in Higher Education Administration, both from NAU.
Developing an effective, efficient data governance process can be a long, strenuous task, but the result is well worth the struggle it requires, particularly when a pandemic shows up.
