Leona Roach is the team lead for the Networking Services team at the University of Nebraska Computing Services Network (UNCSN). UNCSN is the information technology services division of the University of Nebraska Central Administration. We are the primary administrative computing service and intercampus data communications provider for the University of Nebraska. My team also manages the educational portion of Network Nebraska which is statewide multipurpose telecommunications backbone and all of its associated service offerings and support. Network Nebraska is comprised of state government, education, and telehealth. My team also provides technical consulting and network management for the telehealth portion of Network Nebraska.
The educational portion of Network Nebraska started out as a intercampus backbone between the four University campuses and Central Administration. It then built out to the University's research and development center and county extension offices. From there it has expanded to state and community colleges along with the start of the Nebraska ESU's (Educational Service Units) and the K-12 schools they support. Projects for the future involve bringing on each of the ESUs and their schools as they move away from their old JPEG video networks as contracts expire and onto an IP Video network. This will involve the building of RNOCs (Regional Network Operation Centers) to keep at least first line of technical support in each respective region.
Leona has worked for the University of Nebraska since 1972 in various jobs within UNCSN. She acquired her Bachelors' Degree in Management part time while working full time at the University. She has managed the Networking team since 1990 and has seen a lot of changes in technology since she first started at the University.
