Linda B. Nilson is founding director of the Office of Teaching Effectiveness and Innovation at Clemson University and author of *Teaching at Its Best: A Research-Based Resource for College Instructors,* currently in its second edition (Anker Publishing, 2003). Previously she directed teaching centers at Vanderbilt University and the University of California, Riverside. Her academic career started as a faculty member in the Department of Sociology at UCLA, where she established a model TA trauning program. She received her Ph.D. and M.S. in sociology from the Universit y of Wisconsin, Madison on a National Science Foundation fellowship and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of California, Berkeley with a B.A. in sociology.
