
Lisa Blaschke
Biography
Dr. Lisa Marie Blaschke is program director of the Master in Management of Technology Enhanced Learning (MTEL)at the Center for Lifelong Learning (C3L), University of Oldenburg, Germany. Previously, she was program director and an associate professor within the Master of Distance Education (MDE), a program that was offered jointly by the University of Oldenburg and the University of Maryland University College (UMUC). In 2016, Lisa was awarded UMUC’s distinguished Stanley J. Drazek Teaching Excellence Award. From 2012-2016, she was an executive committee member, then vice-president, of the European Distance Education and E-Learning Network (EDEN). She was named EDEN Fellow in 2012 and Senior Fellow in 2018; currently, she is Acting Chair of the EDEN Council of Fellows.
Lisa received a BS in Technical Communication from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in 1987, an MDE from UMUC in 2004, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Oldenburg in 2016. She is originally from the United States (Wisconsin) and moved to Southern Germany in 1990 to work for SAP, a computer software company. While at SAP, Lisa’s primary focus was on leading and implementing enterprise-wide knowledge management and training processes and solutions. Her work with SAP led to the establishment of global quality processes and standards for knowledge products, as well as the design and implementation of an online, learning-object information design that combined the strengths of both training and documentation. Her career experience has been varied, from hands-on practical technical writing and instructional design to global management of e-learning and blended learning projects. After leaving SAP in 2002, Lisa became an independent e-learning and communications consultant before rejoining academia in 2007.
Lisa is a member of the International Advisory Board for the International Journal of Educational Technology in Higher Education (ETHE). In addition, she is a member of the editorial board for the European Journal of Open, Distance, and E-Learning (EURODL), as well as a peer reviewer for numerous distance learning publications such as the International Review of Research in Online and Distance Learning (IRRODL), Research in Learning Technology (ALT), Journal of Online Learning and Teaching (JOLT), the South African Journal of Higher Education (SAJHE), and IGI Global. Her research interests are primarily within the areas of self-determined learning (heutagogy), online collaborative learning, pedagogical application of web 2.0 technology and social media, and user interface design.
