Maité Sylla

Biography

Maité SYLLA received her PhD in Pharmacy at the Central University of Las Villas in Cuba. In 1998, she begin her doctoral studies in Medicinal Chemistry at the University of São Paulo, Brazil. During this period, she focused on the design, synthesis, and biological evaluation of new antimalarial compounds. She earned her Ph.D. in 2002.  After the postdoctoral studies at University of Paris-Sud in France, Maité SYLLA was recruited in 2006 as associated professor at the National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts (Cnam). Currently she is full professor in bioorganic, organic, and medicinal chemistry at Cnam. Her research is carried out at the interface of chemistry and biology at the laboratory of Genomics, Bioinformatics and Molecular Chemistry (GBCM, EA 7528). Her research interests are focused on drug discovery, particularly in the development of new bioactive molecules bearing privileged structures for the treatment of inflammatory/autoimmune diseases, infectious diseases, and cancer.

Maité SYLLA has several academic responsibilities. She is the national coordinator of the general Chemistry Bachelor's degree and the deputy director of the Engineering Sciences doctoral school (SMI ED432). Since 2020, Maité SYLLA has overseen educational project “CAP'VR , Chimie Agro Pharma Virtual Reality” which concerns the development of immersive practical chemistry work in order to training students from Bac+1 onwards to learn professional gestures in a safety way.
