María Claudia Higuera Palacio
Biography
María is an experienced software engineer, and an emerging manager with over 15 years of experience in IT, including nine years in higher education at Wesleyan University.
A graduate of Javeriana University in Colombia, she moved to the United States to pursue a master’s degree in computer science at Wichita State University.
At Wesleyan, she leads the team dedicated to supporting student-facing offices, focusing on delivering technical solutions that enhance the student experience. With a background in PeopleSoft, Workday, and software development, she is dedicated to using technology to foster students’ personal and career growth.
As a Latina in tech and fluent Spanish speaker, she is passionate about helping other minorities recognize and pursue their potential. She has mentored younger Latin professionals and has supported hackathons for kids to spark an early interest in technology.
She participated in the Next Leaders Fellowship (2023) and the MOR Leadership program in 2024. She currently serves on EDUCAUSE’s TLC committee and the planning committee for the Ingeniera Foundation.
