Stephnie Fernando
Biography
Marian Stephnie Fernando is an Academic Counselor at the University of St. Thomas, where she plays a key role in supporting international students, first-generation students, and those navigating extenuating circumstances that impact their academic journey. In collaboration with the Office of International Students and Scholars and the Dean of Students Office, Stephnie provides holistic, student-centered guidance that reflects her deep commitment to equity and access in higher education. As a first-generation international student herself, Stephnie brings a personal and empathetic lens to her work, finding fulfillment in helping students navigate the often-hidden curriculum of higher education. She is especially passionate about staying informed on emerging trends, including immigration policy changes, the evolving role of technology in academia, and best practices for inclusive student support. Stephnie holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from St. Cloud State University. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in Education, Leadership, and Learning at the University of St. Thomas.
