Although my first academic love will always be the study of and the making of the study of history, I have worked in information technology for more than 30 years. From a three-year project to implement Emory University's first electronic library catalog, I moved into Unix system administration and then to academic technologies and student technology support. I've created and led teams of motivated and capable project managers, ITIL service managers, and instructional technologists. I am also a licensed attorney in Georgia, Minnesota and North Dakota, finding a substantial and interesting intersection between information technology, information security, and privacy program management.
In my current role at NIU, I am responsible for data privacy for a campus of 25,000+ users and nearly 250,000 accounts; coordinating our enterprise-wide wide IT governance structure; managing our $3M project portfolio; leading project and service management in the central IT division; and engaging in business process analyses and improvements across campus.
