Mary Balkun

Biography

Mary McAleer Balkun is Associate Professor of English and Chairperson of the English Department at Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ. She is also a Senior Faculty Fellow with the university's Teaching, Learning, and Technology Center and co-chairs the university's Teaching, Learning, and Technology Roundtable. She is the recipient of a Curriculum Development Initiative grant for writing-intensive courses, a project that is Blackboard based, and has presented on the use of course management systems for faculty development. Mary completed her Ph.D. in English and American Literature at New York University. She is the autrhor of The American Counterfeit: Authenticity and Identity in American Literature and Culture, as well as Associate Editor of The Greenwood Encyclopedia of American Poets and Poetry. She has published articles on Phillis Wheatley, Walt Whitman, and F. Scott Fitzgerald.
