Matthew Clay

Biography

Matthew Clay is the Assistant CIO for Academic Technology at Minnesota State University, Mankato. In his 22 years at MSU, Mankato, he has held numerous roles in academic technology team. He has taught courses on technology integration for K-12 teachers in the college of education. He created and lead the technology director team, that was focused on relationship building and alignment of IT with all areas of the university including academic programs. During his tenure, and under his leadership, the learning space team designed and installed over 300 formal and informal learning spaces through-out campus. Taking advantage of the disruption the pandemic caused, his team lead the installation of over 100 hyflex rooms that were installed and ready to go before Fall of 2020. This allowed the university to easily adjust to the limited space requirements and hold classes as close to normal as possible. This was followed by the installation of another round of 90 more hyflex spaces in a response to campus needs.

His team consists of instructional designers, CMS Admins, learning space engineers, endpoint management, and video streaming people.

He is a co-director of our Center for Excellence and Innovation which is co-located with our Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL). We partner with CETL to provide campus-wide professional development around teaching and learning. He also works closely with faculty to develop innovative face-to-face teaching environments including the design of blended and flipped courses.
