Matt Coombs

Biography

Matthew Coombs, Vice President of Technology and Information Resources of Hartnell College, has worked in higher education for over a 22 years. After earning a M.S. in Instructional Technology Matthew dove head first into contracts with the Air Force and then with Apple Computer. He then served as General Manager of Product Development at United Education Centers, a learning media and simulation development company. During this period, Matthew also co-founded and led iShopper Inc., an e-commerce web development firm. After selling his company, Matthew joined Campus Pipeline as one of the founding employees. Campus Pipeline would soon raise over 100 million dollars with the mission to integrate disparate educational systems through emerging portal, collaborative and enterprise integration technologies. While at Campus Pipeline and subsequent parent companies such as Sungard Higher Education, Matthew contributed to the business/strategic development, product management and consultative practices of the company. Matthew set strategic direction for the Luminis Portal and Content Management product suite as well as the integration infrastructure and collaboration technologies. After 10 years with SunGard (now Ellucian), Matthew joined Delta College to help the school deploy numerous open source and SOA software projects. Matthew sat on the boards of multiple Kuali projects and served as one of the lead product managers of one of the most ambitious of these projects - Kuali Student. Kuali is an international, SOA-based, open-source, ERP project poised to deliver to higher education, an enterprise system including the following modules: finance, student, enrollment management, registration, degree audit and financial aid. As an experienced technical, functional and management consultant, he has helped hundreds of schools understand the path and benefit of deploying modern systems to leverage skill sets and personalities, technology investments, enterprise data. Schools more than ever, need to rely on technology to manage the business of providing education experiences, enhance institutional intelligence and streamline business processes. Currently, Matthew consults with institutions across the globe and has joined Hartnell College to take this progressively minded college on the Monterey, California peninsula down a similar path of community source and advanced technology adoption.
