Biography
Maxine Atkinson is a professor of sociology at NC State University where she also directs the First Year Inquiry Program. Maxine's primay interest is the scholarship of teaching and learning. An example of her research is "Table Reading Skills as Quantitative Literacy" (Teaching Sociology, July 2007) and her most recent teaching award is the Hans O. Mauksch Award for Distinguished Contributions to Undergraduate Sociology, presented the American Sociological Association in August of 2007. Maxine focuses much of her work on teaching undergraduates, especially first year students, and training graduate students to teach.
