Biography

Open Educator | OER & Accessibility Advocate | Artist & Writer | Humanizing Education & Knowledge Sharing

I am an open education advocate, accessibility champion, and creative thinker who believes in humanizing education and knowledge-sharing. As the Open Educational Resources (OER) Librarian at the University of Texas at Arlington, I lead initiatives that expand access to learning, empower educators, and reduce barriers for students. My work focuses on facilitating professional learning communities, developing open resources, and collaborating with faculty, students, and administrators to integrate OER into curriculum design.

With a background in teaching, digital learning, and creative expression, I thrive at the intersection of education, technology, and the arts. I am also an artist, poet, and writer, and I see openness as a way to foster connection, accessibility, and inclusion. Through my nonprofit publishing venture, Megan Zara, I hope to support creators, amplify diverse voices, and promote the use of Creative Commons licensing in artistic and educational works.

Beyond my professional work, I am deeply committed to mental health advocacy. Living with bipolar disorder, generalized anxiety, and ADHD, I know firsthand the importance of grace, space, and support in learning and in life. Whether through OER, storytelling, or creative expression, I strive to make education—and the world—a little more open, human, and kind.
