Biography

Melissa (Missy) Casner is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the School of Applied and Creative Computing within Purdue University’s Polytechnic Institute. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in computer and information technology and is passionate about creating engaging, learner-centered educational experiences.

Her professional interests include emotional safety, emotional intelligence, online and hybrid learning, systems analysis and design, business intelligence, data automation, and the thoughtful integration of artificial intelligence in education. Her research explores women’s experiences in information technology, learner perceptions of psychological and emotional safety, and the effectiveness of innovative instructional approaches in face-to-face, online, and hybrid environments.

Professor Casner has consulted on technology and organizational initiatives for both for-profit and nonprofit organizations. As a scholar-practitioner and doctoral candidate in Indiana State University’s Instructional Leadership program, she is committed to advancing teaching, learning, and leadership practices that prepare learners for success in an evolving digital world. She expects to achieve All But Dissertation (ABD) status by the end of 2026.
