IT Service Ownership in Higher Education: Definitions, Applications, and Benefits
This paper presents a model for organizing service ownership and management responsibilities to improve higher education IT organizational effectiveness.
Michael has served for 30+ years in the University of Maine System both at campus and system IT (shared services) levels. In campus IT he led the deployment of modern IT services and infrastructure with a focus on customer service. After a stint in the private sector, Michael returned to the University of Maine System to deliver distance-education technology support and then, in a strategic capacity, on the CIO's team, focusing on IT Service Management, disability accessibility and most recently, IT Service Cost allocation and transparency. Michael led the development of, and manages, the system's IT Service Catalog, and system-wide policy on IT disability accessibility. He is active in Educause in the ITACCESS and ITSM community groups. He also served on the SIGUCCS mentoring program advisory group. Michael lives with his family, and too many sailboats, in Central Maine.
