Michael Smith is Director of Technical Services in the User Support and Student IT Enablement division of Information Technology Services at LSU. His group manages online support through the GROK knowledge base, the public access computer infrastructure including a virtual desktop infrastructure, software licensing and distribution, classroom technology support, and provides software development support for the division.
Over the years, he has worked just about every job in IT except network engineering. He's done both system and application programming on Windows, DOS, Unix, and OS390, system administration on all these systems, DBA on DB2 and SQL Server, and email administration, all in high volume environments.
He has also served as a departmental business manager and is a CPA (not licensed).
He has a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and a Master's degree in Information Systems, both from LSU.
