Michelle Reed

Biography

Michelle Reed is an information professional with over 15 years of experience in higher education. She currently serves as Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and Head of the University Library’s Scholarly Commons. In her previous role, Michelle served as Director of Open Educational Resources (OER) at the University of Texas at Arlington, where she led open and affordable textbook initiatives, directed OER publishing, and managed a grant program to advance the use of open resources on campus. She’s contributed to both statewide and national OER efforts, including the University of Texas System Affordable Learning Accelerator Task Force, the Driving OER Sustainability for Student Success (DOERS3) Collaborative, the SPARC Open Education Leadership Program, and the Open Education Group’s OER Research Fellowship Program. In 2021, her work developing OER processes and workflows received the Library Publishing Coalition’s first annual Publishing Practice Award in accessibility.
