Mike Dewey is the IT Director for Academic and Research Computing (ARC) support at Rice University. A member of the Vice Provost for Information Technology's Executive Committee (ITEC), Mike's direct reports include managers for five separate teams comprising 65 staff members and responsibilities for educational technologies, research computing, campus-wide desktop support, server and system support for academic schools, and the Help Desk. With over 25 years of experience managing and supporting customers who use a variety of platforms, from desktop computers to servers and infrastructure systems, his primary area of expertise is blending diverse teams into a unified group focused on customer service and accountability.
In 2005, Mike arrived at Rice to manage an IT team of infrastructure and desktop support staff with responsibility for customers in the academic schools of Engineering and Natural Sciences. His group also supported tenants housed in Rice's BioScience Research Collaborative (BRC) ranging from external Texas Medical Center partners to university faculty, their research groups, and their administrative support teams. Prior to his roles at Rice, Mike had combined communication and project management skills with deep technical experience in desktop support, data and voice communications, and Windows and SUN server administration for both public and private enterprises, including Houston's Metro Transit Authority (METRO), Cemex (Southdown, Inc.), British Gas Exploration and Production, and Rockwell Space Operations.
