Bio for Mildred Arbuckle
Mildred is a third generation Texan and native Houstonian. She reared two children as a single parent and has enjoyed three careers. After winning a years scholarship in the art of dance she opened three dance studios specializing in ballet, achieved choreography assignments and coached other scholarship contestants for the Hallie Pritchard Professional Group in Houston Texas.
Her second career was a long stint in the real estate brokerage business where she received the Top Ten Real Estate Sales Award out of 250 agents in her first three months of practice from the Jim Tucker Real Estate Firm. Two years later she became part owner and manager of four Century-21 offices located in Deer Park, Clear Lake, and Pasadena Texas. She was the training agent for the company and taught real estate finance and law.
Presently she has engaged in the arena of academia at San Jacinto Community College. She started back to school in spring of 1994 and immediately started work part-time as a computer lab assistant at the Main Campus. Within three years she became the Supervisor for the Computer Information Systems AND the Open Lab Departments.
Her professional accomplishments at the SJC South Campus include:
Developed a database for student tracking in the Open Lab.
Developed an Excel spreadsheet for payroll used campus-wide and became mandatory for Federal Work Study students at the College.
Authored the Open Lab Guidelines & Procedures and the Student Assistant Training Manuals.
Marketed and authored an agreement which formed a partnership between the Bay Area Board of Realtors, San Jacinto College and College of the Mainland for computer training.
Initiated the incorporation of work-study process with Student Internships for the District.
Established a suggestion program developing surveys to ascertain opinions and views of students for lab improvements.
Initiated and oversaw the involvement of a successful fund raising project for the campus Open lab.
Re-engineered the original lab plan to scale and increased the personal computer stations from 25 to 46─adding additional printers.
Moving from the old facility to the new Interactive Learning Center she was appointed as the Open Lab Coordinator and handles the overall operation including personnel.
Initiated a community service program involving the PBS Channel 8 volunteer promotional program by organizing the Open Lab Team to help support that effort.
Developed two workshop programs involving the training of all Open Lab Assistants and other workshops to help the students, the lab assistants, and the public by leading them in a direction that helps keep the students to become more interested in theirwork, their community service, and their learning adventure and exposes the public to parts of the SJC curriculums as well as the Interactive Learning Center.

Her personal accomplishments while working at San Jacinto College include:
Earned an Associate of Applied Science, Computer Information Systems User Support Degree from San Jacinto College, Class of 2002.
Received MOUS certification in Microsoft Word Expert, Microsoft Excel Expert, Microsoft Outlook, and has also received the extensive IC3 certification.
She serves on the Board of Directors for the Natchez Landing Townhomes Association since 2003.
She established the Bay Area Chapter for the Red Hat Society in June 2004.
Mildred is interested in the study of alternative medicine, Yoga, and Tai Chi.
