Mitchell Gentry
Biography
Mitchell Gentry is an accomplished technology leader with more than 25 years of experience designing, delivering, and operating mission-critical network and infrastructure services across higher education, healthcare, research, and enterprise environments. As Assistant Director of Network Services at Washington University in St. Louis, he provides strategic leadership for network engineering, modernization initiatives, cybersecurity integration, and operational excellence across one of the nation's leading academic medical institutions.
Mitchell currently leads a multi-year network transformation program that is modernizing campus, medical, research, and remote-site connectivity through the deployment of next-generation fabric networking, identity-based segmentation, advanced security architectures, and cloud-ready infrastructure. His work focuses on improving resiliency, scalability, automation, and user experience while supporting the complex needs of healthcare delivery, biomedical research, and higher education.
A collaborative leader and trusted advisor, Mitchell has extensive experience building partnerships between technical teams, executive leadership, healthcare organizations, and industry vendors to drive successful outcomes for large-scale technology initiatives. His expertise spans network architecture, cybersecurity, data center and WAN services, wireless infrastructure, IT service management, operational transformation, and organizational leadership.
Prior to his leadership roles in higher education and healthcare IT, Mitchell served in the U.S. Army, where he developed the foundation of his commitment to service, teamwork, and mission-focused execution. Throughout his career, he has remained passionate about mentoring technology professionals, fostering innovation, and leveraging technology to advance organizational goals.
Mitchell is an active participant in the higher education technology community and regularly contributes to discussions focused on network modernization, digital transformation, cybersecurity, and the future of IT services in academic medical centers.
