I am an organizational sociologist with longstanding interest in the formal organization of knowledge, the quantification of educational accomplishment, and alternative educational forms. With Martin Kurzweil at ITHAKA S+R I convened the project Responsible Use of Student Data in Higher Education. I also am a faculty lead of Stanford's Futures of Learning, Opportunity and Work.
The higher education community must set the table and invite others to help us define ethical practice and responsible use of student data in the rapidly changing digital world of the academic enterprise.
