Biography

Phil Ray leads the service center operation at the University of Michigan's Information and Technology Services (ITS) organization. Phil has a Master's degree from Michigan's School of Information. He began his work life at the university in 1995, as a project manager and data manager for an intensive medical imaging project. He went on to manage research computing and network services for a digital microscopy laboratory. From 1996 to 1999, Phil served as systems administrator and IT supervisor at Michigan's Division of Kinesiology, with responsibilities for desktop support, instructional technology, network services, and everything in between. From 1999 to 2011, Phil served the School of Natural Resources and Environment as the manager for IT services. He refocused the then dysfunctional IT into an exemplar of quality service. Phil joined U-M's Information and Technology Services organization in 2011 to establish a new customer relations function, and in 2015 moved into a role leading the service center, with oversight for help desk, access management, and related operations.
