Ralph Alberico

Biography

Ralph Alberico is Dean of Libraries and Educational Technologies at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Previous positions include serving as Head of the Undergraduate Library Services Division at The University of Texas at Austin and as Head of Reference at Loyola University in New Orleans. While at the University of Texas he was responsible for establishing the Digital Information Literacy Office. In addition to numerous journal publications and conference papers, he is author of the 1987 book Microcomputers for the Online Searcher and co-author of Expert Systems for Reference and Information Retrieval which was published in 1990. His current responsibilities include administration of libraries, technology classrooms, distance learning applications, educational software licenses and faculty development for instructional technology. He has also served as Chair of the Steering Committee and the Outreach Committee for VIVA, the Virtual Library of Virginia a state-funded consortium of academic libraries in Virginia. He currently serves as chair of the VIVA Task Force on Multimedia Collections. He received his Bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo and his Masters degree in Library Science from the University of Alabama.
