Randy Crawford

Biography

Randy Crawford came to UTMB in 1985 with a BBA from the University of Houston at Clear Lake and a professional background in both marketing and management. During his tenure at UTMB he has been responsible for various systems and project initiatives and assumed the role of UTMB’s Information Security Officer in 1995. In this capacity Randy has institutional oversight for lT security where he routinely liaisons with Legal Affairs, University Police, Audit Services, Office of Compliance, UTMB Executive Management, and various external agencies. Although initially tasked to address compliance issues with state standards HIPAA has broaden his role to add responsibilities for federal interests as well. In 2001 he became a Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP), the de facto security management certification recognized worldwide as a symbol of professionalism and accomplishment in the field. In early 2004 he added the Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), a next generation business-oriented credential specifically geared toward experienced information security managers focused on information risk management; and as well, the Certified HIPAA Security Professional (CHSP), a comprehensive focus on the law and the relevance it has on information systems infrastructure and initiatives towards HIPAA security compliance. Most recently, he has added the Certified Homeland Security Professional - Level III (CHS-III), this designation emphasizes promoting communication, collaboration, and cooperation between the public and private sectors to achieve the maximum level of preparedness to anticipate, prevent and respond to acts of terrorism in order to protect our nation, families and communities.
