Ray Trygstad

Biography

Ray Trygstad is the Associate Chair of Illinois Tech's Department of Information Technology & Management (ITM), and designed and wrote curricula currently in use for six Bachelor and Master's degrees. He oversaw program accreditation by ABET as the only accredited Information Technology degree in Illinois. He is also the Associate Director of the Center for Cyber Security and Forensics Education, where he managed the process of designation as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber-Defense Education. As an Industry Professor of Information Technology and Management at IIT, Ray teaches a wide variety of courses including disaster recovery & business continuity, information security management, open source operating systems, and legal and ethical issues in IT. He previously served as the Director of Information Technology for the School of Applied Technology at Illinois Institute of Technology, where he was responsible for technology planning and computer system management and administration for the school. He has taught Naval Science, Computer Science, Business, and Public Administration at Illinois Tech and has guest lectured at the University of Chicago. Ray is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD, and was designated a Computer Systems Management Subspecialist by the U. S. Navy, where he served as an Information Systems Manager and Information Systems Security Officer when he was not flying helicopters. In this capacity he did his first information systems security audit in 1988. He earned a Master of Science in Systems Management from the University of Denver and has done Ph.D. Studies at Illinois Institute of Technology. He has been an ABET Program Evaluator in both Information Technology and Cybersecurity,and is now a Team Chair and a Commissioner on the ABET Computing Accreditation Commission. He is the Chair of the ACM Special Interest Group in Information Technology Education (ACM SIGITE).
