Ray Mercer

Biography

Ray Mercer joined Columbus Technical College in 1994. He has progressively served in the positions of technical instructor, Engineering Technology program manager, and chairperson for the Technical Studies Division. He is currently Director of Virtual Learning. He is responsible for all aspects of distance learning (web-based, web-enhanced, videoconference, and Techmobile) to include curriculum development, faculty training, and technology enhancement. Prior to coming to Columbus Technical College, Ray served for 20 years in the US Army as a tactical communications planner and manager. Along with numerous operational assignments in the US, Germany and South Korea, Ray was an Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, United States Military Academy, and Professor and Head, Department of Military Science, Georgia Tech. Ray Mercer earned a BS of Applied Science and Engineering from the United States Military Academy in 1973, and a MS in Electrical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School in 1982. Ray is a licensed professional engineer in the states of Georgia and Virginia. Ray Mercer is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, a member of the American Society of Engineering Educators, a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, and a member of the Leadership Columbus.
