Biography

I received my library degree from the University of Washington in 1970. Since that time I have been at the University of Iowa. I began my career as a reference librarian, but have also had the titles of Acting Head of the Business Library, and Team Leader for Information Services (which included being head of the Media Services Department). I am currently the Interim Head of the Information, Research and Instructional Services (IRIS) Department. In this position I manage the Reference Department, Media Services Department, and the Information Arcade (which is our electronic classroom and multimedia portion of the library). I have been very active in both the Iowa Library Association and in the American Library Association. I served four years on the ALA Reference Sources Committee that selects the outstanding reference books of the year. I am currently serving on the ALA/MARS/Products and Services Committee, the ALA/LAMA/PAS/Economic Status and Staff Welfare Committee, and the ALA/MOUSS/Management of Reference Committee. I have been active in ILA for many years. I have served in a number of roles including: Secretary, ILA/ACRL; Chair, Intellectual Freedom Committee; Secretary/Treasurer, ILA/LAMA; and Chair of the ILA/Bylaws and Organization Committee for 7 years.
