Rick Holmgren

Biography

Rick Holmgren is responsible for Library, Institutional Research, and Technology Services at Allegheny College. He earned a Ph.D. in mathematics at Northwestern University in 1988, and joined the mathematics faculty at Allegheny that same year. In 1999, he was appointed Associate Dean of the College with primary responsibility for faculty development. He was an active participant in Allegheny's 2001 and 2009 strategic planning processes and served as the chair of the College's accreditation review team in 2002-04 and 2012-14. In 2004, Rick was named as the founding director of Allegheny's Learning Commons, a comprehensive academic support center housed in the College's library. A 2005 graduate of the Frye Institute, Rick was appointed as Allegheny's Executive Director of Learning, Information, and Technology Services in the spring of 2006. In 2009, Rick became the College's Chief Information Officer and joined the College's senior staff. In 2021, Rick stepped down from his role as Allegheny's Vice President for Information Services and Assessment and returned to the faculty.
