Richard Griscom

Biography

Richard Griscom has served as Associate University Librarian for Collections and Liaisons Services since January 2016. He is responsible for building and maintaining the Libraries' collections budget as well as a liaison-services program to promote outreach and engagement with the Penn community.

Leading up to his appointment as a director, he was head of the Otto E. Albrecht Music Library and the Eugene Ormandy Music and Media Center for eleven years. Griscom is trained as a musician and has played the recorder in the Penn Baroque and Recorder Ensemble since 2004. He is coauthor of The Recorder: A Research and Information Guide, which won the Music Library Association's 2014 Duckles Award for the best book-length bibliography or other research tool in music.

During his years at Penn, Griscom has led a number of strategic projects for the Penn Libraries. From 2006 until 2008, he was project leader for ScholarlyCommons@Penn—the University of Pennsylvania's institutional repository; he was interim coordinator for humanities collections from 2008 to 2009; and from 2010 until 2014, he was co-team leader of the project that developed the new Franklin catalog. He currently chairs the Libraries' Discovery Team.
