Rick Colbourne
Biography
I am a higher education strategist and educator with over 20 years’ experience partnering with universities to embed creativity, digital tools, and Generative AI literacy into teaching and learning at curriculum scale. My work focuses on helping institutions move from early experimentation to sustainable adoption by working closely with academic leaders and faculty to design professional learning models, communities of practice, and curriculum-aligned implementation strategies.
My approach to faculty development is grounded in practice rather than prescription. I work alongside academic staff to design professional learning that is discipline-relevant, pedagogically grounded, and directly connected to assessment, programme learning outcomes, and student experience. This includes supporting faculty to build confidence with creative and AI-enabled tools, developing communities of practice that sustain adoption over time, and helping institutions translate innovation into everyday teaching practice without adding unnecessary burden or complexity.
I bring extensive international experience working with universities across the UK, Europe, and North America, collaborating with senior academic leaders, programme teams, and educational developers on curriculum innovation, digital transformation, and academic capability building. Having worked across different regulatory, cultural, and institutional contexts, I am experienced in adapting strategies to local priorities while supporting shared goals around teaching quality, academic integrity, and student success across diverse higher education systems.
