Biography
ROBERT "BOB" TURNER is the Chief Information Security Officer at The Pennsylvania State University where he provides strategic leadership and oversight of the Information Security program.
Prior to this role, Bob was the CISO-in-Residence and Chief Operating Officer for the Cyber Hero vCISO Network serving the small business market. He was Field Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for Education at Fortinet, Inc. where he served as a senior level strategic business and technical advisor responsible for the development of security thought leadership, strategy, threat, vulnerability & mitigation insights, and world class practices for the cyber security community and business executives.
His experience in higher education includes serving as CISO at the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he led the development and delivery of a comprehensive information security and privacy program. His team provided a full scope of information and cybersecurity services including risk management and compliance, HIPAA and cybersecurity risk assessment, a full service security operations center and security tools support, cyber forensics, cyber intelligence analysis, security awareness and information technology policy.
Bob's career also includes managing consultants focused on cybersecurity policy and compliance with assessment of information systems and cybersecurity inspection for education, healthcare, installation management and energy clients.
Bob also served in the U.S. Navy for 23-years as an enlisted telecommunications operator then as a commissioned Communications and Information Systems Officer. He earned BS and MS degrees in Management and Information Security, professional education certificates in cybersecurity and a Master Certificate in Enterprise Cybersecurity Leedership. He earned the Certified Information Systems Security Professional credential in 2005 and still holds it today.
