Ron Culmer

Biography

Ron Culmer has over fifteen years of Public Safety experience and has an extensive background in the best practices in contemporary safety and security technology systems. Ron also has over two decades of Information Technology/System Administration Experience. Ron has served in various capacities throughout his career including investigations, training, crime prevention, physical security and information technology system administration. Ron has actvely participated in numerous emergency preparedness exercises (i.e. Active Shooter) and is an Emergency Liaison Officer (certified by the Washington, DC Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency) and has also served as a representative for the Consortium of Universities in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Police Department's Joint Operations Command Center (JOCC). Currently Ron serves as the Lieutenant/Safety and Security Specialist for the University of the District of Columbia which is a Historically Black College and University and is the only urban land-grant institution in the United States. The University supports a broad mission of education, research and community service across all member colleges and schools, which include the Community College of the District of Columbia, the College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability and Environmental Sciences, the College Arts & Sciences, the School of Business and Public Administration, the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and the David A. Clarke School of Law. The university has four inter-city campuses along with numerous workforce development sites (inlcusive of an agricultural farm, aviation maintenance program with hangar, and allied health programs in local hospitals). In the capacity of Safety and Security Specialist Ron serves as the resident authority for all Integrated Security and life safety systems and is consulted on capital projects and renovations.
