Ron Chandler


Ron has many years of experience in corporate strategy, technology strategic planning, and program management across various industries. He is an Intel Corporation Education Accelerator Mentor. An advisor to the technology community, he is currently working with GSV Capital backed company, Clever. Prior to that he was the CIO of the second largest K-12 computing enterprise in the US (K-12 student enrollment: 640,000) with a staff of approximately 700 FTE’s and a $500M budget. He went to Los Angeles in 2010 from the Oakland Unified School District where he served as Chief Technology Officer and led a team that rebuilt the entire technology environment. While doing so, he worked concurrently as the founding principal of NMA Consulting. His previous posts include serving as Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer at Irwin Union Bank (headquartered in Indianapolis and serving 10 other States in the Midwestern and Western Regions). He has substantial experience as an independent consultant and in various management roles leading technology and strategic change client engagements at Accenture, the McDonalds Corporation, and Price Waterhouse Coopers (now IBM Global Services). An electrical engineer by trade, Ron managed design teams on multiple Avionics Systems for the F-16 and A-12 aircraft earlier in his career. His advice is widely solicited in support of technology advocacy and he serves on various local and national governing boards, associations, advisory groups, and committees. He has been recognized as a finalist in Evanta’s Global CIO Top 10 Breakaway leaders (2014), one of Computerworld Magazine’s Top 100 CIOs (2014) and as one of the Big Ten Most Influential People in Educational Technology by Technology and Learning organization (May 2014). Ron graduated from the prestigious Brooklyn Technical High School, received his BS in Electrical Engineering from Southern University, earned an MBA from the Ross Business School at the University of Michigan (Corporate Strategy and Systems Management), and is a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP). Ron holds a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Southern University and an MBA from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. A transplant to California from New York, Ron enjoys year round golfing and wild Alaskan salmon.
