Ross Housewright

Biography

I'm a senior analyst at Ithaka S+R, a non-profit focused promoting innovation and the use of technology in higher education and libraries. I develop and implement high-profile grant-funded and consulting projects that address pressing challenges facing the library community in a digital environment. My work at Ithaka S+R has focused on supporting libraries in developing effective strategies to efficiently and effectively support their users long-term priorities in a rapidly changing electronic environment. Major themes have included the changing information service needs of faculty (based on large-scale surveys of faculty attitudes and practices), print collections management and preservation, and government information, as well as broad thinking about the changing on-campus role of the library and opportunities for libraries to work collaboratively to support shared values.

     As journals are increasingly accessed in digitized form, many libraries have grown interested in de-accessioning little-used print originals; but desires to repurpose space often come into conflict with concerns about preservation.
