Salvador Baez-Franceschi
Biography
He has been involved with computer technologies for more than 12 years. During this time, he has developed and managed technology projects for numerous companies and institutions such as Motorola, CMA Architects and Engineers, University of Puerto Rico, and University of Houston. In 1997, he received a Research Grant from the Government of Puerto Rico to start the design and development of a new web platform, which he named it, VNet. In 2003, he was offered the position of Information Technologies Director for the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at the University of Houston. In this position, he formed the Virtual Technology Center (VTC), which has implemented very successfully and further developed many of the technologies originally invented back in Puerto Rico. VTC's main project, VNet, has gained recognition not only from numerous departments in our university but also from other academic institutions and private companies. Last year Apple Corp. chose our project as one of their success stories to be highlighted in their World Wide Site and in their Server Training manuals. His most recent publication, Web-Based Technologies: Reaching their ultimate potential on restricted budgets was presented in Baltimore, October 2,004.EDUCAUSE Presentations
