Sarah Stein
Biography
Sarah Stein is a graduate of the Frye Leadership Institute 2005. She is a tenured Associate Professor in the Dept of Communication at NC State University, where she teaches undergraduate media production and graduate courses in media technologies and criticsm for the new interdisciplinary Communication, Rhetoric, and Digital Media doctoral program. Dr. Stein began the NC State Teaching, Learning & Technology Roundtable in 1998, based on Steve Gilbert's TLT Group model, and the TLTR has been successful in providing a forum for dialogue that attempts to bridge the entrenched silos that exist at research-extensive universities. She serves as Coordinator of Academic Outreach and Faculty Collaboration for NC State's Virtual Computing Lab (VCL). The VCL is an NC State private-cloud computing architecture in production since 2004, serving over 30,000 students and staff. Dr. Stein is the NC State Coordinator for the VCL-North Carolina Community College System partnership, in which the VCL is currently being used at 16 community college campuses. She is also the PI for a 4 year NSF ITEST grant, "Scaling Up STEM Learning with the VCL," in which mathematics advanced software is brought to 9th and 10th grade geometry and algebra students in rural North Carolina.EDUCAUSE Publications
