Scott Genung

Biography

Scott Genung is the Interim Chief Information Officer at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. In this role, Scott is responsible for promoting strategic outcomes through the effective use of technology, enabling opportunities for collaboration and partnership through technology, and providing oversight and high-level direction for Technology Services, an organization whose purpose is to deliver strategic IT capabilities to the campus at scale.

Scott has greater than 30 years of experience within the higher education community. Prior to serving in this role, Scott served as the Deputy CIO for IT Operations at Illinois. Over his career, he has served in a variety of IT technical and leadership roles spanning four distinct institutions including the University of Chicago, University of Oregon, and Illinois State University. Scott also led the creation of a grant-funded broadband startup, served as adjunct faculty, and has been active in a variety of external organizations including Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA), IvyPlus, Educause, and Internet2.
