Sean Hagan

Biography

Sean Hagan serves as the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for Michigan Tech University.  As CISO, Sean is focused on developing a robust IT risk management program and collaborating with key stakeholders in academics, research, finance, student services, and other areas to establish and expand minimum security standards and other strategic efforts to enhance community awareness and engagement, expand cybersecurity posture, and expand alignment with requirements for audit and regulatory compliance.  Additionally, Sean works to establish and grow partnerships with the Department of Homeland Security, MS-ISAC, and within the state of Michigan and and collaborating with and developing relationships amongst government and private sector partners throughout the region.

Prior to his work at Michigan Tech, Sean served as CISO for the University of Alaska System, comprising the independently accredited University of Alaska Anchorage, University of Alaska Fairbanks, and University of Alaska Southeast and their associated community campuses for almost three years, and spent five years before that as the CISO of Yavapai College, a mid-size, multi-campus, residential community college in central Arizona, where he led institutional efforts related to information security, compliance, and risk management.  In total, Sean has more than 20 years of experience in higher education IT.
