
Shannon Compton, PhD
Biography
Shannon Compton, PHD, AHIP is the Health Sciences and Scholarly Communications Librarian (HSSCL) at Bay Path University located in Longmeadow, MA. In her position she plans, promotes, and provides library information and data literacy through direct teaching and instructional services, resources training, and research support addressing the needs of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students and faculty in the clinical and health sciences at Bay Path University via Hatch Learning Commons/Library Services. She serves as the primary point of contact for scholarly communications matters including the use of Open Educational Resources (OER), Copyright, Fair Use, Open Licensing, digital repositories, and management of the Hatch Learning Commons website. She is also specializes in research methodology and supervises graduate students in their master's and doctoral capstones.
Previously, she has taught courses in genetics, biology, cell biology, microbiology, and neuroscience at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, Smith College, Mount Holyoke College, and Greenfield Community College. She holds Masters Degrees in Library and Information Science, Biological Science, and Cell & Molecular Biology as well as a PhD in Biomedical Science. Her research focused on the molecular basis of disease, cancer biology, and neurodevelopment. She has published several peer-reviewed research papers and authored the genetics section for an undergraduate biology textbook.
