Leveraging Partnerships: The Value of Consulting Firms
Consulting firms can be invaluable partners for higher education leaders. This article presents specific recommendations to help leaders maximize the value of these partnerships.
Shannon Dunn, Ph.D., is Director of Strategic Team Operations with Vantage Technology Consulting Group, where she contributes to consulting services including strategic planning, organizational assessments, peer reviews, IT governance, and data governance. With nearly 20 years of experience in higher education, Shannon has developed programs for strategic planning, governance, and stakeholder engagement and has supported a wide range of pedagogies, educational technologies, and approaches to faculty development. Shannon has presented at EDUCAUSE annual conferences and EDUCAUSE ELI, published in EDUCAUSE Review, and has contributed through a variety of service and leadership roles to the EDUCAUSE community, including proposal reviewer, community group co-lead, and advisory committee member. Shannon received the Rising Star Award from EDUCAUSE in 2020. In addition to contributions to EDUCAUSE, Shannon has served in a variety of leadership roles for national and international professional organizations including the Learning Technology Consortium, Society for Historical Archaeology, and Society for American Archaeology.
Prior to joining Vantage, Shannon was an Assistant Director at the University of Florida Information Technology division where she managed instructional design and educational technology services at the Center for Instructional Technology and Training. Shannon leverages her experience and education across disciplines to model lifelong learning and to advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts across IT and higher education.
A re-routed/former academic, Shannon was previously a practicing archaeologist and worked both in private consulting and for the federal government, where she developed and led state-wide programs; consulted with agencies, communities, organizations, and individuals; negotiated programmatic agreements; directed compliance with federal and state legislation; managed interdisciplinary research teams; administered budgets; and mentored colleagues and students.
Shannon earned a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy in Anthropology along with a Certificate in University Teaching from Syracuse University, and a Bachelor of Arts from New College of Florida.
