Biography
Shannon leads educational program development and innovation throughout the Division of Educational Ventures at Oregon State University. She directly oversees several Educational Ventures units, including the Ecampus course development and training team, the Ecampus Research Unit, the Open Educational Resources Unit, the Alternative Credentials Unit, and the program management team. Shannon joined Ecampus in 2011 and has overseen the development of a robust and award-winning faculty and course and program development process, provided leadership for quality assurance across the division’s educational programs, and contributed to the significant expansion of the number of programs offered.
Active nationally in the field of online education, Riggs regularly presents at conferences and has written for publication about online course development, faculty development, leadership, access to higher education, and innovation. She is currently serving on the Quality Matters Board of Directors and Academic Advisory Council, and previously served as chair of the WCET Steering Committee.
She is the author of Thrive Online: A New Approach to Building Expertise and Confidence as an Online Educator (Stylus, 2020).
