Simeon Ananou

Biography

Dr. Simeon Ananou is the Vice President for Information Technology & Chief Information Officer for Stony Brook University where he is responsible for creating, communicating and executing a vision and strategy for IT across the University.  In this capacity, he partners with stakeholders to develop and enhance IT systems, policies and procedures in support of the University’s mission.  Additionally, he has a central role in advancing innovation and digital transformation initiatives across the university.

Over the course of his career, Ananou has created information technology governance structures at various colleges and universities to support digital transformation. He has presented at several national and international conferences on the role and the impact of Information Technology on higher education.

Prior to joining Stony Brook University in August 2023, Ananou served as Chief Information Officer at the University of Vermont, Vice President and CIO at the University at Albany, SUNY, Chief Information Officer at Salisbury University in Salisbury, Maryland, Associate Provost for Information and Administrative Technology Services and Chief Information Officer at Slippery Rock University located in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania. 

Over the years, Ananou has also served as an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Education at the University of Vermont, adjunct faculty member in the Department of Educational Policy and Leadership at the University of Albany and as an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Information and Decision Sciences at Salisbury University.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Ohio State University, a Master of Business Administration from Baker College, and a Doctor of Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. In addition, he attended Harvard University’s Institute for Educational Management.
